Mr. Tsokur has been the co-founder and the Master Math Tutor at Brainy Kids Tutoring Centers since 2001. He has a B.S. in Electronic Engineering, a B.S. in Physics and Math, and a M.S. in Physics. His expertise includes Elementary Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and Physics.

He has successfully taught Math and Physics in a high school and a community college in the beginning of his academic tenure. His engineering career started with a position of an Electronic Engineer and eventually led to the position of a technical director of a manufacturing division at a consumer electronic plant in Riga, Latvia. In the US he worked in the capacity of an Electronic/Electrical Engineer and a project manager for MSX, Panasonic, and TRW.

Mr. Tsokur has an in-depth knowledge of the deductive methods of teaching Math subjects with the focus on terminology and explaining the origins and inner logic of math concepts that allows for improved understanding and retention. He incorporates training in study skills into his tutoring sessions so that students can achieve new heights in school and in their college education. He continues to gain insights into what is best and most current in education through national and regional educational conferences.

Mr. Tsokur is a third-generation teacher. His grandfather was a math teacher and a school principal. His mother served as an elementary school teacher for 50 years. Teaching students has been a passion of the Tsokur family, and they continue to put the achievements and advancement of students at the center of their lives.

Brainy Kids Tutoring Center was founded and is operated by Mrs. Marina Tsokur. She has a B.S. in English Language and a M.S. in Education. She has taught English Language and Literature at four-year colleges in Europe. After immigrating with her family to the US in 1992, she taught English, Writing, Business Communication, Speech, Economics, and History of Arts at the Ventura Community College, Ferndale School District, Macomb Community College, and ITT Technical Institute. Her expertise includes training by Sylvan Learning Centers, management of a Huntington Learning Center, and two years of ownership of a Kumon Franchise Center.

She has an in-depth knowledge of the most effective teaching methods, and she continues to gain insights into what is best and most current in education through national and regional educational conferences. Mrs. Tsokur is frequently invited to consult at staff and IEP meetings at local schools and has trained numerous teachers. She was awarded the honorary title “The Person of The Year” by Rochester Community Schools in 2010. She helped organize and lead a three-week MEAP Training for 600 children when approached by the Parents-Teachers’ Association of Rochester Schools. Mrs. Tsokur is a member of a local children’s advocate group. She has owned and has run tutoring businesses since 1988.

Mrs. Tsokur is a second-generation teacher. Her mother taught languages and literature for more than 40 years. Her father was the principal of a high school and taught Math and Physics for more than 50 years. The Tsokur family has taught around 54,000 students among all of them. Their combined careers in education have lasted for over 160 years. Mrs. Tsokur has a special place in her heart for children who struggle in academics because her younger son, as a child, was diagnosed with ADD and had struggled in school.
